Meet Sonya Kharas
Sonya Kharas first became curious about Nonviolent communication in 2016 after leaving a job at a nonprofit where it seemed nobody could get along. She attended a First Monday with Thom Bond and immediately felt relieved to know that there might be another way. She has since committed herself to studying and practicing NVC, clocking in over 500 hours of course work with instructors around the world.
For Sonya, this experience has been nothing short of transformational. Noticing her feelings and needs, relating to others with empathy, and seeing conflict as an opportunity for collaboration as opposed to separation have become key pathways in Sonya’s journey towards a more authentic, meaningful, and connected life.
Sonya also works as a facilitator and organizational development consultant, helping nonprofits break free from the norms of dominant culture and create new habits, systems, and structures that value the needs of all. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York, is a proud aunt to two niblings, and experiences true happiness at the beach.
