Meet Cathan Kabrelian (Feb. 8, 1967 - Dec. 31, 2024)
Through her work as a trauma-trained dyslexia specialist, classroom educator of many subjects and grade levels, professional musician, and certified mindfulness instructor, Cathan has lived her life with the intention of making meaningful contributions to the lives of others. Bringing needs-awareness and compassionate communication to all of her endeavors has transformed her experience of living. Cathan now works passionately to share what she has learned about creating a more wonderful life.
She began her compassionate living journey 20 years ago when her book club read Nonviolent Communication by Marshall Rosenberg. That experience, and the NVC book club and practice group that followed, stimulated a desire to learn more. She attended NVC workshops, listened to Marshall Rosenberg, and practiced. Alas, it wasn’t easy to integrate these concepts! Determined to deepen her understanding of needs-based awareness, Cathan mentored with NVC trainers, participated in several NYCNVC programs (Discovery Weekend, Advanced Empathy, and Parenting courses), and devoted herself to The Compassion Course Online, where she is now a mentor, international practice group facilitator, and champion of needs-based empathy. Cathan served as Co-Director of the NYCNVC/CCO Empathy Program and was a vital part of the CCO Leadership Team. She brought the NYCNVC Discovery Program to Kansas City.
